What Exactly Happened?
The search function in Reddit appeared, giving error messages to many users. When users try to log in to it on their desktop or other devices, it loads the page along with showing up subreddits. But, when the users tried to search for anything, it started showing error messages. While opening the site on the desktop, it appeared with the background without any content on it. The site produced the background without any content for a few seconds and then started producing sorry messages explaining that the site can’t load any search result. Many users who were visiting the site on its app version found Try Again messages with a sad face emojis.
Meanwhile, Downdetector had shown hundreds of such failed attempts of the users when they tried to perform searches, and it ends with showing an error message. The website allows the users to post their reports if any service is not functioning properly. Meanwhile, the platform has fixed the issue, which lasted for almost seven hours. Since Reddit is rolling out the fix in many phases and so some users are still complaining regarding the issue. However, Reddit has not mentioned anything in detail regarding the issue on its official accounts on the social media platform.
Issues with a search engine are not so rare, and it is not a crippling problem for the platforms such as Reddit. For example, thousands of Instagram users complained recently that the mobile versions of service were down on their devices. The social media platform took only a few hours to fix the issue and restore the app services. Since many other things were functional on the site, which includes even viewing content on subreddits, most of the users may not have even noticed it. It is very much clear that these people have noticed the outage more frequently, and it leads to more and more inquiries and complaints.
