Snapchat launched its location service, Snap Map to allow users to share their locations with family and friends. Here is a detailed explanation of its location privacy features, including Ghost Mode.
In today’s world, almost every user is carrying a smartphone with GPS technology. In such a condition, it is very much relaxing to find a feature like Ghost mode, which provides its users with more privacy settings. However, many users are still not aware of the Snapchat feature Snap Map. It can be risky for users who are not keeping an eye on privacy settings.
Snapchat introduced Snap Map in the year 2017 to allow users to share Snaps all across the world through the feature “Our Story.” Additionally, the users can utilize Snapchat to share their current location with friends, colleagues, and family members. Apart from these, Snapchat users can view Snaps, stories, friends, and places through the Bitmoji feature. Bitmoji allows users to view everything available and live at the given time on a map.
The Snap Map feature is very creative and new when it comes to communication and connectivity with friends and family. However, if the users are not aware of its privacy settings, then using this location service can turn risky for them. For example, if you have enabled your settings to share your location with everyone, your current location will become visible to everyone coming across your name, story, Bitmoji, etc. The people coming across your location can be anyone like a friend or a colleague or a stranger also. While recognizing this potential security threat from the beginning, Snapchat introduced various privacy-related options to its users. Snapchat introduced all these privacy features to keep the location of its users unrevealed, and the most difficult to catch among these features is Ghost Mode.
Ghost mode: How to enable it to Get Extra Privacy
No one likes the idea that everyone knows his location. A User may scream after knowing that his location is visible to worldwide app users. But, Ghost Mode provides full privacy to the users if they are unwilling to share their location with anyone. Once you enable Ghost mode, it will make your presence only visible to you on Snap Map. No one will be able to view your location, not even your friends on Snapchat.
You can enable Ghost mode by first clicking on the feature Bitmoji. You can find Bitmoji at the left side of the top screen while scrolling down to the Snap Map feature. Then, click on the Settings appearing in the gear symbol. While scrolling down through Settings, you will need to tap on the Ghost Mode option to enable it. Once you turn on the Ghost Mode, you will be prompted to set the time for how long you want to turn off your location information. You will be prompted to set the time for three hours, twenty-four hours, or choose the option until turned off. The time options will help you turn off your location information for a few hours or choose it to turn off forever.
Moreover, some more privacy-related features are available in the Settings section of Snap Map under Ghost Mode. You can select the option to share your location with all your friends on Snapchat. It will allow you to share your location with the friends added in the coming time. However, your location will not be shared with the users who have added you to their friend list, but you have not added them to your list. Another feature that you can choose is to share your location with friends but with some exceptions. The particular option will help you to exclude those friends to whom you don’t want to share your location. The last option that you will get in Ghost Mode is to select some specific friends who will be able to see your current location. Overall, there are multiple ways to use Snapchat to reveal your location information only to those you want.
