As you’re all well aware of the announcement about the original Oculus Quest in 2018, nobody expected the gaming system to be as much of a hit as it is today. Facebook itself mentioned that the system has done way better than what they had thought as they could never hold Quest in stock.
Apart from getting an affordable VR headset, it is as easy to operate as any other gaming console. The Oculus Quest 2 is all set to release today and has promised to level-up your experience with the same. It consists of an entirely new processor along with a smaller and easy-to-handle headset. Not only this, but it is also offering a high-resolution display, fresh lens design, and a lot more accessories than the original Quest. After a huge success of the Oculus Quest, Facebook is prepared with a much larger stock this time to keep themselves from running out.
You’ll be amazed to know that the Oculus Quest 2 will be $100 cheaper than the original. Therefore, if you weren’t able to buy yourself one earlier because of its high price, it’s time to enjoy the new device at an affordable price. It seems like this is the VR headset we were all waiting for all this while.
If you’ve never played using a VR console, the new Quest is also an independent headset just like any other console, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, etc. Though the new headset doesn’t require a TV, it can cast the virtual reality game on Smart TVs and other Google devices.
Once you’re all set to use the Oculus Quest 2, you’ll be prompted to log in with a Facebook account using an Oculus app on your phone. After logging in, opt to go through the VR experience while standing or sitting. If you choose to play while standing, you’ll have to set boundaries across the room to keep yourself from bumping anywhere.
The official Oculus Store enables you to download games and applications that you can access using the Quest 2 or the Oculus app on your smartphone. Everything you need to play with the Quest 2 comes handy in a box. These accessories include a Quest 2 headset, a Type-C USB cable, two controllers, and an adaptor.
Moving forward to display and graphics, you must have experienced playing games that have extremely amazing graphics. Unfortunately, the Quest 2 isn’t offering any games exclusively for its processor. The processor isn’t the only difference between the two Quests; however, the new pixel-packed display is quite noticeable.
As mentioned above, the Quest 2 offers a higher resolution display. The best part about the same is being able to play upgraded games even if they aren’t optimized for the new Oculus. As anyone would expect from a new device, the Oculus Quest has also worked on providing a ‘next generation’ console launching alongside Xbox Series S/X and PS5. Many of these advancements are inspired by Snapdragon XR2, newer than the Snapdragon 835 present for the original Quest. Originally, the Snapdragon 835 was a chipset released for a smartphone in 2017; however, XR 2 is a VR chipset.
The Oculus Quest 2 offers a fifty percent raise in the resolution quality and a 25 percent raise for the refresh rate. Everything about Quest 2 is a meaningful improvement from the original Quest that was released two years back. While you’re engaged in playing games on the new VR headset, navigating to the home menu is just a one-tap away. Also, you receive instant responses while taking a screenshot or recording video.
The lens inside the headset offers a new adjustment system keeping in mind that everybody has a different adjustment style. Some users have very close-distant eyes, and fortunately, you can push the lens inwards. While for others, you can push the lens outwards and adjust as per your convenience.
Just like the original Oculus, Quest 2 also has in-built speakers, but this time you’ll find them inside the rotating strap arm. The quality indeed is an upgrade than the original with higher volume, fuller sound, improvement in the bass, and advancement in 3D audio.
They are giving some attention to the controllers, as we all know that the VR controllers are counted amongst the best controllers in the industry. Thus, Oculus 2 will rock these on, but there is a minor drawback, which is its bigger size. Other than this, these controllers are a lot better and solid than the old Touch controllers.
By far, everything that we know about the new Oculus Quest 2 is positive and better than the original Quest. However, there is only one extra step to perform in the future: Facebook login. Not only the new VR headsets, but the update will prompt all the Oculus users to log in with a Facebook account from October 1, 2020.
Though some people will find the Facebook login annoying, it’ll make sure that you don’t just play around using a fake account or username. It also mentions the policy of needing a parent’s account to use Oculus for kids under thirteen.
For all the people still in a dilemma about investing in the new Oculus Quest 2, you must not give any second thoughts if you’re a game freak. It will genuinely present you with a quality experience, and in the end, a better involvement is all that matters.
