How to Use Any Email Address to Create a Windows 10 Account

You might have noticed when you operate a new Windows 10 device or add another user to it, the notification of creating a new account pops up.  It asks you to access your Microsoft account using an Outlook email address. However, if you don’t have an Outlook account, you can use any other email address as its substitute to create an account.

Using an alternate email address is an equally good option as it still offers you the same benefits as an Outlook email address user. This can be done with the help of the Settings app. You’ll get to know more about it further.

Creating a Windows 10 account with a Gmail address using the Settings app

The steps to create a new account on your system with Gmail address using the Settings app are:

1. Go to the Settings app on your PC.
2. Locate and click on the ‘Accounts’ tab.
3. Click on the ‘Family and other Users’ option on the left toolbar of the screen.
4. In the next window, click on ‘Add someone else to this PC’ option under the ‘Other Users’ section.
5. A Microsoft account window will open. Tap ‘I don’t have this person’s sign-up information’ highlighted in blue.
6. Now, enter a Gmail address in the provided space and hit the ‘Next’ button.
7. Enter a password for your account for security reasons in the next window.
8. You might need to enter your personal info if asked, for instance – name, date of birth, etc.
9. Once you’re done providing the information, click on the ‘Next’ option.
10. A verification code will be forwarded to you on the email address provided. Enter the same in the next dialog box that appears.
11. Mark the checkbox for ‘I would like information, tips, and offers about Microsoft products and services’. Note that this step is optional.
12. The final step is to hit the ‘Next’ button.

Also, note that using your Gmail address here won’t make any changes to your Gmail account services.

One good thing about creating a Windows 10 account using Gmail is that it’ll sync with all other devices using the same account.

Creating a Windows 10 account using Gmail address during OOBE

OOBE stands for Out of Box Experience. Whenever you set up a new Windows 10 device, you’ll see the OOBE screen pop-up that asks its customers to log-in or sign-up with a Microsoft account, accept the license agreement, etc.

Therefore, the steps to create a new Windows 10 account using Gmail address during OOBE are:

1. Select your region on the first window that appears.
2. Hit the ‘Yes’ button on the bottom of the window to continue.
3. Select the keyboard layout from the list in the next window and hit ‘Yes.’
4. For the next window, click on the ‘Skip’ option.
5. Now, select ‘Set up for personal use’ in the next window that appears and click on ‘Next.’
6. A sign-in window will appear. Tap on the ‘Create Account’ option.
7. Enter the Gmail address and click ‘Next.’
8. Enter a password for your account for security reasons in the next window.
9. Mark the checkbox for ‘I would like information, tips, and offers about Microsoft products and services.’ Please note that this step is optional.
10. Click on the ‘Next’ option to continue.
11. In the next dialog box, select your region and date of birth for confirmation and hit ‘Next.’
12. Follow the on-screen directions.

After completing these steps, your Windows 10 account with your chosen email address shall be created.
