Everyone’s aware of the screen time feature on an iPhone and iPad that sets certain limits to the usage of the device. The feature is specially designed for the parents to set a screen time so that their children do not access the applications beyond their allowance. Do you want to allow or block access to certain websites while your kids are using their devices? Screen time feature of the iOS and iPadOS has got your back!
Screen time offers you a lot of features that enable you to keep a check upon your children’s activities. Downtime is one of the handy tools that is used to allow or block access to specific websites. If you want to allow access to some particular websites, and block all others, below is a guide on enabling the apps during downtime.
How to Enable Apps During Downtime While Using Screen time
Before getting to know further about the access to applications during downtime, make sure your iPhone or iPad runs iOS 12 or later versions.
The steps to enable the apps during downtime using screen time are:
- Go to the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Locate the ‘Screen Time’ option and click on the same.
- Tap on the ‘Always Allowed’ option under the ‘Screen Time’ tab.
- A list of applications will appear in the next window. To add the apps to the list of ‘Always Allowed,’ tap on the ‘+’ icon next to the application name. In the same manner, tap the ‘Minus (-)’ icon next to the app name to remove the app from the list.
This is pretty much it! By following the steps mentioned above, you’ll be able to access any application you’ve added to the always allowed list during the downtime.
One important thing to note here is that you cannot disable the ‘Phone’ app during the downtime. However, you can set the limited contacts on your device that can be accessed all the time. For instance, family contact numbers, emergency contacts, etc.
You may also set a screen time passcode to restrict anyone from making changes to the settings you’ve made. Make sure to update the password regularly.
Other than giving access to certain applications during the downtime, you can also set a screen limit for the same. It’ll automatically cut access to the apps once the screen time ends. Also, you can block the content or websites that you want to keep out of your children’s reach.
