Facebook is releasing a big upgrade for Instagram that will further enhance the messaging capabilities of Instagram with the help of the Facebook Messenger app. Recently Facebook announced that they are all set to release a big update for Instagram, which will integrate “Instagram Direct Messages” with the Facebook Messenger app.
Earlier we could only send messages to our Instagram friends using “Instagram Direct messages.” But now all this is about to change with the release of an upcoming upgrade for Instagram, which will allow Instagram users to message their friends on Facebook messenger and vice versa without installing a new app on their phone.
Initially, the upgrade will be rolled out for some specific countries (Including the US) this year. But after the successful trial of this new feature, the company will roll out the upgrade internationally. The main reason behind this move of Facebook is to accomplish its big goal that is to integrate the messaging system of all its messaging apps (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp).
14-months back, Facebook brought together the two teams that handle the messaging services of Instagram and Facebook for the purpose Unifying the messaging system of all its messaging apps, and now Facebook is all set to accomplish this goal.
According to Chris Cox (Facebook Chief product officer), the only aim behind merging the teams and unifying the messaging system of all its apps is to help its customers reach their friends and family members no matter which platform they are using.
Besides integrating the messaging services of Instagram with the Facebook Messenger app, the company will also be releasing some more unique features and privacy controls for its customers like selfie stickers, custom emojis, message color themes, and effects, “Vanish Mode,” etc.
However, it’s worth mentioning that some of these features are already available for Messenger users and Instagram users at this moment, and the remaining features will be available on Instagram and Facebook Messenger app very soon. Additionally, Facebook is also releasing many other new features for its customers that will allow them to protect their privacy on their platforms.
For example, Instagram will now allow its users to control the types of messages they receive on Instagram. They will also get the ability to block messages. Instagram will also give its users suggestions of people to block (depending upon the people that you have blocked on Facebook). Amazing, right? However, if you don’t want to use the Instagram messaging services with Facebook Messenger, then you can also opt-out/turn off this feature.
It appears that the new features of Instagram and Facebook Messenger will surely make their users fall in love with them. But for now, Facebook has no plans of forcing its customers to use this feature, and if you don’t want to integrate Instagram Direct messaging service with Facebook Messenger, then you can opt-out of this feature or turn it off. However, once you opt-in /turn on this feature, you won’t be able to opt-out/turn off this feature.
Even though Facebook is not forcing its customers to integrate Instagram Direct messages with Facebook Messenger, the move to integrate the messaging service of Instagram and Facebook might develop a feeling of fear among people. Why? Because most people don’t trust Facebook a lot when it comes to privacy thanks to all the Facebook data breach incidents that we have seen in the past few years.
It is a huge move by Facebook that may entirely change the way that people use Facebook Messenger in the future. However, WhatsApp is not a part of the integration process as of now. But it may happen in the future because Facebook wants to Integrate the messaging services of all its messaging apps (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp).
Final Verdict
It is a great move by Facebook to integrate the messaging services of Facebook and Instagram together, but the move might develop fear and concern among people thanks to all the Facebook Data breaches that took place in the past few years. However, only time will tell whether people accept this change or criticize Facebook for this move.
